Reno@HollandAve - Electrical works

The guys are out in the living going through the electrical works, so I'm here snapping some photos back here in the bathroom and kitchen. So this week, the electrical works are starting. The electrician has started to pull some wires over the last 2 days... here are the photos!
kitchen - loads of coloured wires here!

master bedroom - wires all running along the ceiling edge
bedroom 2 - more wires running

electrician and hubs, deciding where to put the DB because of the beam above the main door.
Took a picture here to show everyone that old flats are actually not straight. See the beam from the windowon the left? It's quite thick and how it tapers off to the right, becoming narrower once it reaches the wall? Some times people will ask our contractor to rectify the ceiling or floor tiles as they notice that from one end to the other, the width of the ceiling or floor tiles are not the same, this is not because of workmanship, but rather it's the walls that are not perpendicular or the ceiling is not perpendicular. It's true. Hard to explain once the cove lights are up or floor tiles are done. So this is one really good example for everyone to see!

Some times, you can see this "tapering" effect above the windows too! So it's not the windows are not straight...it's actually the flat that is not "straight".

Reno@HollandAve - New windows up!

notice any differences?
Yes! The old textured red walls are being plastered over. And the whole flat's windows and grilles have been removed and new black framed windows are being installed over the week!!!
 Kitchen windows
master bedroom windows. haha, our dear contractor has left the old grilles lying neatly by the side of the wall
 door frames all in!
Looking good as a new wall here before the kitchen entrance
Window grilles near entrance are being left there for security. Going to remove them later once the new grilles arrive.
this week, electrical works are going to start!

Reno@B Maisonette - Upstairs flooring completed!

Leveling the staircase threads to lay the tiles...

 Master bathroom shower wall completed!
The common bathroom for the boys! Shower wall is almost completed, leaving the shelves.

Home@Stirling - IKEA KALLAS seat bench for play area

I've sold my IKEA outdoor rattan chairs away and did a seat bench for my little boys. The seating capacity remains more or less the same and I gained more storage under the bench this way!! It's definitely a more storage seating solution for a new play area for the kids.

Above: Here's how it looked BEFORE and AFTER the seating bench is finally completed after weeks of procrastinating at getting the fabric and bringing it to a shop to have it upholstered.

And because I'm quite the shopoholic, although i went into the fabric shop knowing I only had one kind of fabric to buy, I ended up buying 3 different fabrics! One for the seating bench and 2 others for cushions. I'm really pleased with the origami japanese print one which I've customised a cushion cover for it. The other one is a really cute giraffe print which I haven't taken a photo of it here...perhaps another day.

At the shop I was really debating about whether to have a teal or a grey print for the seating bench. After a really really long while, I decided to get the grey one and I'm quite pleased it turned out ok. Guess I don't really want too many colours in the play area huh.

Here's a close up on the seating bench fabric which i had gotten. The baskets are from IKEA. Currently they are all empty!!! So i really have loads of storage space for toys in time to come.
Jules already trying out his new seating bench! He was really excited about it and he loved the window sill a lot. He makes believe that the window sill is a train track and he "choo choo"s his trains there.
Jules and his thomas train by the window sill
i wouldn't call it an IKEA hack since many people have already done it and the kallas shelving serves more or less like a storage solution and the whole thing was not totally transformed into something quite different, it's simply a KALLAS shelving unit with a cushy top. :)

So yeah.
Hope everyone enjoyed this little post on my home!
