Stirling HDB Terrace - #198 WJ + MUM

CLEANING + PRUNING

WJ laying bricks here so that the soil doesn't flow back to the drain during heavy downpours. Took him quite fast to lay them...after which he started to pick up visible debris left from the construction work. That took him awhile...picking up all the stones, leftover brick pieces and god-knows-what!

mum on the other side was picking up all the leaves...and it filled a whole yellow recycled bag! GOSH. there are so many leaves around here and no one seems to be bothered with cleaning them. YES, i pay maintenance fees and conveyancing fees, how come the cleaners don't clean up dried leaves? This is so weird!!!

luckily there's mum around.

Stirling HDB Terrace - #194 The view outside my Kitchen

our bamboos are thriving nicely! and they really give me a sense of accomplishment. hmm...maybe i have green fingers???

Stirling HDB Terrace - #199 PLANT OR WEED?

While i was clearing leaves, i noticed that the tree beside my house has a viney plant that blossomed!
So is this a weed or a plant? Should i remove it from clinging too tight and sucking up the nutrients of the tree? Or should i just leave it aside...maybe they like each other yah? Who knows!

Stirling HDB Terrace - #180 WHAT TO CATER FOR IN A BATHROOM DESIGN?

1) LIGHTS
Set up good lighting. With adequate lighting, it creates an effect in people that makes them feel more secured. This feeling helps you forget about the borders of the room, especially if you have light colored walls ie WHITE is GOOD. Rem: One for the vanity and one for the shower area. If you can, go for perimeter lightings too.

2)COLOURS
Install light colored walls and tiles. Together with proper lighting, lightly colored walls will trick your eyes. It is said that by doing this, your brain will not be able to create a clear perception of the walls. To the eyes, the walls will seem like a continuation of the light. Decorating bathroom walls with similar shades is preferable. If you have started with white and then you want to add a different color, choose the lightest shade of yellow or gray. And it's always a nice effect + good fengshui to have a plant in the bathroom!

3) REDUCE CLUTTER
Increase your floor space. Bathrooms tend to appear small when one can’t freely move around the room. This feeling happens when you bump your foot, leg or arm on some furniture that you have in the bathroom. By removing your towel cabinet out of the room, you will gain more free space. Instead of placing your dirty laundry basket inside the bathroom, put it in your bedroom or washer area. Try to keep your buckets.mops. little perfume bottles, skincare into cabinets. This way, your vanity counter will look more spacious than what it really is.

4)MIRRORS that reflect
Mirrors are not only a good tool for looking at oneself but also for making rooms appear bigger. But to make it work, you must have a big enough mirror. The mirror must be at least 4 feet by 5 feet to make it look like a separate door or window to another room. You can put this on one side of the room. Another way to do it is to cut the mirror in half and place them on opposing sides. This will create an illusion that the room has more adjacent rooms than it really has.

5)CHOOSE WISELY
Have the right bathtub. Although a bathtub can occupy a big chunk of your floor space, it does not have to be removed from the room. Instead of having it removed, you can replace it with a smaller one. Maybe you do not need a lie down tub, a sit one will do like just mine! Also instead of having a long and wide sink, choose a medium/small one that allows you to have a 'longer' vanity counter.

The bathroom is one of the rooms in the house where a person can relieve stress like my hubs! He loves to poo, think and read, watch his ipod in there. Sounds gross but well...he likes it. so keep to the tips mentioned above, and you can enhance the relaxing effect of your small bathroom to soothe your body and mind.

Stirling HDB Terrace - #179 Door Handles

i LURVE this design! wonder does IKEA has this thing!!! cos i realised that hubs have confirmed with my carpenter that we will not have door handles for our kitchen cabinets and will be having those 45 angled groove on the top/bottom of the doors.

Stirling HDB Terrace - #178 Bathroom designs

toilet paper holders! What do you think of them???

Simple vs cute vs multi-holder vs ipod-friendlies.

Stirling HDB Terrace - #177 Bathroom designs

BATHROOM = WCs+Mirror+Sink+cabinets+towel rack+toilet paper holder+lightings+hand towels+weighing machine + toothbrush+toothpaste +bathrub (maybe)

Now that i have some free time to do some designing. I'm now looking into bathroom designs!
YUP. The cabinetry works are only coming in mid august, so it gives me ample time to think of what i want to do with my bathroom vanity counter, cabinet, mirror , storage areas, cabinet designs.

Things which i started thinking are: drawers vs shelves. White vs wooden laminates. Long vertical mirror vs long horizontal mirrors. Lightings...towel handles, hand towel racks, toilet paper holders ....

We are definitely going with sinks over counter or at least partly submerged. Not those under counter sinks as they will reduce storage space when u have cabinets under the sink. Currently, I'm thinking of having my bottom cabinet with a long handle so that i can kill 2 birds with one stone! Meaning, one to open the cabinet, other to serve as a towel handle.

Stirling HDB Terrace - #175 Before Afters

MORE UPDATES!
A quick update on the front entrance of our new place. On the left was the before photo and on the right is our new place! Uncle William has just recently gotten his men to paint the exterior walls from yellow(upper half of unit) to white! YAY!!!

Plus the gutter was getting very rusty at the brackets (where the old money plant was clinging its life too) so we got Uncle William to paint them black. now it looks so much cleaner! Paint is really a good way to cover up old parts when u have a tight budget. Redoing the entire gutter will cost more than just a can of paint.

the workers also painted the back exterior walls white too! Now it's just leaving the gardening work to be done on the outsides. it's one task which i think will take several weekends for us to dig, shovel, clear the dried leaves and buy more potted plants to spruce and green the place.

any ideas for plants?
sis is thinking of heliconias, as their colours are really striking...dad and mum wants a christmas tree so that at Yuletide seasons, we needn't go hunting for a fake one, plus following years, we can save the trouble of pulling the xmas tree out from the store room and putting it back in again! Hubs is thinking of a bird nest fern!- low maintenance...

hahaha....so much for plants. and so many decisions to make.

Stirling HDB Terrace - #177 Solar SPIKE lights from IKEA

recently we have purchased some solar powered spike lights from IKEA. It's still undergoing trials since we aren't really sure how long the rechargeable battery will last. Last week when it was quite rainy, the rechargeable battery didn't get fully recharged i suppose... as when the sky starts to darken, the spike lights start to 'on' by themselves, they started to blink like xmas lights!!!!

it was so funny!!! like Christmas was already here.
So we decided to come back the next day to check out whether it was spoilt or it was just under-charged.
The next evening we were back to check on the lights, and it was still blinking!!!! OMG. we were thinking shucks...what a waste, most probably we'll have to return it back to IKEA. So we switched it off. Btw there's a manual ON and OFF button too.

Then...after a few days, it got really sunny, that evening, i went down with my parents and ON the spike lights and voila! it was shining STILL and BRIGHT.

WOOHOO!

here are some of the photos

Stirling HDB Terrace - #176 Front Patio

Stirling HDB Terrace - #175 Staircase STORE

here's how our stepped woody shelves from IKEA looks like when it's full! hahaha...and we haven't even moved in yet.
There's so much stuff here...left over paint from Dulux to touch up some of the wall damaged from other works...brooms (the soft bristle one for indoors, while the hard one for outdoors), shovels, gardening tools, glass detegents, insecticide, fertilisers...GOSH.

and we have such a narrow corridor to get our stuff too...but we ain't complaining, cos there can never be enough storage space! We wouldn't even spare our door!!! so we hang our brooms!!!
