Reno@Segar (4 Room BTO Flat) - Final Photos

 Hello Peeps!
It's the weekend again. This week, we are doing a short feature on our recently completed BTO flat in Segar. It's for a family of 5 and with a reno budget of about $25K. We did quite minimal changes to the flat to keep costs low. All the bedrooms were kept. What we did was a shoe cabinet, full kitchen works with granite counter top, wardrobe in the master and a shower wall for the master bath. For electrical, we added the aircon and some rewiring in the kitchen to fit the kitchen appliances, bar counter and lights.

There was a small hack at the kitchen entrance to make it easier to get in and to keep the aircon from flowing into the kitchen, a glass door was added later.
Above: shoe cabinet.
For this home,  instead of the usual wood white palette, we have gone for a fabric laminate.
Above: Bar counter, special request from the missus.
She really wanted a bar counter in the kitchen and was willing to work with just 1 counter for the sink, stove and fridge all tucked side by side on the opposite wall.
We kept all the original HDB floor and wall tiles in the kitchen.

To give the kitchen more added storage, we designed a bottom cabinet right at the end of the counter to house the microwave oven and 2 drawers for kitchenware items.
Here's the other side of the kitchen - fridge, stove, hood, built in oven and sink, topped with granite.
Lucky thing the husband managed to persuade his mother from getting the side by side fridge. If not going to be super tight here.

Last but not least, the master bath with its very own shower wall for bath items and glass partition. No vanity was done for both the bathrooms. The shower accessories were all kept and reused once the wall was up. Minimal plumbing works since the common bath was kept in its original condition as we didn't have to install any WC or sinks.

watch this space for our next home feature!

Reno@Segar BTO - Living and Kitchen

Reno@Segar BTO - Bedrooms

Grandparents room
We are here checking up on the progress of our Segar BTO flat...Looks good to move in anytime soon. The lights and fans for all the bedrooms have been installed. The painting has completed too.
Daughter's room

Master room
The missus wants a full false ceiling in the master and a built in wardrobe finished in a dark colour, complete with a blue accent wall. If I remember correctly, the reason behind choosing the blue wall was because of Fengshui.
Opening up to check the master wardrobe...To the left are 3 drawers with 1 accessory drawer right at the top, some hanging space at the bottom and a small area for long dresses (for the missus). To the right of the wardrobe, more drawers and hanging space. This will be for the hubs.

Reno@Segar - Carpentry started!

This has got to be one of the busiest months we had. Sorry for the lack of updates on our Segar BTO but things have been moving really fast and furious and it's almost near completion already. We are targeting to handover end May which I'm quite optimistic about. The electrical works, wet works, painting and partition works have all been completed over the last few weeks. Leaving the carpentry and plumbing works which is done usually at the tail end after the countertop has been installed, so the plumber only needs to come once to fix the kitchen sink and tap together with the bathroom shower mixer, sink, tap and WCs.

Yup. And my helper is coming in tomorrow!!!! YAY!!!!
so I hope things at home will be a lot easier for the both of us. We are just beat to death after we picked up the kids, feed them, shower them, pack their bags and stuff and wait for them to KO on their beds!!!

Reno@Segar - Renderings

Reno@Segar - Kitchen options

a new beginning for a family of 3 + 2 grandparents in a 4 room apartment

WANTS
the grandparents want the side by side fridge
the mother wants a cafe bar countertop which takes up 50% of the kitchen counter space
the grandparents wants a close kitchen
the mother wants an open kitchen
OMG.
@_@

Mathematically speaking, that leaves the other 50% of the kitchen counter to house the stove, double bowl sink, countertop convection oven and the huge fridge.  It just doesn't add up. There's not enough counter space to work with.
Some things have to go or compromise.

NEEDS
sink
stove
proper working space for food preparation

The truth is hard to bear. But lucky thing, the father is willing to compromise. They probably will get a smaller fridge but it's still relatively sizeable. The oven has to go to the "cafe" bar counter and sits less one person.
