Stirling HDB Terrace - #201 Curtains, Blinds, Window coverings!

here are the updates!
on our roman blinds + roller blinds from Jimmy textiles.

Jimmy textiles peeps are here at 7pm. WHOA! and their drilling is blardee loud! i hope my neighbours do not complain although the drilling took only say 5 mins? So i had them (blinds) installed at the family area and the master room.

Now they are putting on the blinds after drilling in the rack. And guy here is doing a test on the system. Good. it's working! and not jammed up.

and now it's the 2 of them doing the other side of the window. hahaha...looks like they are planning something behind the blinds! Don't they look a cute couple!!! Must be ssh-ing to each other how the missus of the house is crazy over taking photos...and recording everything bit that they are doing. Hope that puts a bit of stress on them to have my blinds installed properly.

And the finale, testing the blinds.

Stirling HDB Terrace - #200 MEOW!

neighbour's cat over our parti wall. peering into our kitchen. Curiousity does kill the cat huh?

And YES.
they are still spraying water into our kitchen and room over the parti wall.
WHAT IS IT WITH THEM!

Stirling HDB Terrace - #195 Frangipannis

my frangipanni has grown quite a bit but it still doesn't seem to flower. So sad!!! Does anyone know how to make it flower?

Stirling HDB Terrace - #191 ARUCARIA

My new addition to the Green Family

presenting Arucaria...
and here's how to care for your 'xmas tree'!

Arucaria needs bright light but never full sun. Preferably you should place your tree within four feet of a large window. They can survive with only household incandescent or fluorescent lighting if they receive a minimum of 16 hours of light each day. This may be effective in keeping the plant alive for a year or two, but its health will decline. There is no substitute for bright, natural light. Turn the plant frequently to keep it symmetrical.

Arucaria should be watered thoroughly weekly in the summer to keep the potting mix slightly moist (never soggy!) Water more often if your plant is drying out earlier.
Preferably, you should use rainwater or water which has set for 24 hours to protect your tree from chemicals. Feed monthly in the summer with a diluted (half strength), soluble house plant food.

Stirling HDB Terrace - #190 Decorette Wall Decals

WALL DECALS from www.decorettestore.com
backdated from 10 July 2010.

here's how the decal looked like when they got here. All curled up! Next amanda from Decorette starts to tape it to the wall to give us a feel of how it will look like before adhering it permanently to the wall.

Amanda rope in her hubs to help her too! It was their first time doing a decal on a ceiling! So she wasn't sure whether she could reach our ceiling. hahaha...so hubs to the rescue.

And after shifting it abit left, abit to the right...finally we settled on the area and off goes the backing of the decal. And our tree decal started to grow like a normal tree! Beginning with the trunk, next to the branches and foliage and finally adding the 2 dove birds!

Amanda doing the last few touches of adding the birds and it's done!

sweet!

Stirling HDB Terrace - #189 IKEA compartments

LIFE's fantastic with IKEA!

the tofu which i wanted! And i got a real good deal at IKEA's further reduction period sales!!!

pull out rack for pants! so nifty!

isn't it frustrating how cupboard makers restrict the number of drawers that they can give you in a package? And everything comes with extra charges like the compartment for accessories (which they called the 'tofu' nowadays), pull-out mirror, glass backing for the compartment, racks for pants etc etc.

So i decided since they are going to customise my wardrobe, might as well let them customise it to IKEA's compartment sizes! that way i can buy IKEA compartments and install it into my wardrobe. And if i don't like it, i can change to another kind of shelving or compartment or pants rack or something. Anything. IKEA prices sure beats my cupboard maker prices anyday.

if only ikea's stuff is 100% durable.

Stirling HDB terrace - #186 Venetian Blinds

WINDOW COVERINGS- an alternative?
in my previous post, i mentioned that we were getting ideas on window coverings...hubs and i have gotten on our track of looking at roman blinds from Jimmy Textile. Besides roman blinds, while shopping at IKEA, we also played with thoughts of having roller blinds and venetian blinds.

Venetian blinds can be quite a fuss free window covering if you can't make your choice where tons of fabrics are at your disposal. Like us, we were just spoilt for choices. With venetian, you just choose from the limited range of colours, over here there isn't patterns or graphics to ponder upon. Plus with venetian blinds, it can regulate the amount of daylight (this nifty device that lets you turn the angle of the blades to allow little to no almost no light coming in!!!) that comes through the windows. something which roman blinds or curtains can't do.

Discovered by Venetian merchants who were traveling in Far East countries, Venetian Blinds were an instant hit among the interior decorators. The aficionados of home décor quickly lapped up different styles and designs offered by the Venetian Blinds manufacturers.

The blinds simply consist of slats of horizontal and overlapping material. This flexibility, in particular, was the main reason the immediate popularity of Venetian Blinds. You can easily and quickly adjust the Blinds to receive just the amount of sunlight you want which i mentioned earlier. WOOHOO!

The most popular among different varieties of Venetian Blinds is the one with wooden strips(one which we have in my mother's kitchen). Aluminum Venetian Blinds are also quite popular in homes and commercial establishments.

venetian blinds are one of the inexpensive window covering solutions for your home, something which i saw at IKEA and thinking of buying now. Due to the unique material, think plastic! (cheap and affordable) Venetians are quite durable and easy to maintain blinds, one clean swipe off the louvres and you are done with cleaning.

Stirling HDB Terrace - #185 Roman Blinds

Roman blinds offer a clean, modern and simple look to any window. Roman blinds offer all the benefits of roller blinds, in which you are able to control to the window shadings, but with the addition of classical simplicity.

Last weekend, we decided that it was time to do some draping to our windows, for privacy really. Mum was very uneasy with all our windows exposing our new place to others.
She said that " everyone walk pass can see girl...not good..." actually i know...there are always many kay-pohs around the vicinity. hey im guilty as charged. If i see a new place undergoing reno, i will also poke my head over the wall...peek inside and see what they are up too! compare abit here...comment abit there to my hubs...

it's human!! to be inquisitive.

anyway...we decided to have roller blinds, roman blinds and maybe even venetian blinds! hahaha...just like our lightings! a variety of all sorts.

So we went down to Jimmy textiles. a family business i heard over forums. Janet was the lady who served us. very patient, brought many fabrics for us to choose. Listened to our needs and left us to ourselves when we needed some time to think through the piles of fabric she left at our table for us to choose. We settled for one roller blind and 3 panels of roman blinds. We still have some window portions that we left out. Thought probably we leave them with 3 panels first and judge their workmanship before letting them do the rest of our home. They were very prompt with their service. We decided that day with the fabric, added black out for the back of the blinds (extra charge here for every panel), paid a deposit and the following day, the workers came to measure our windows.

think this weekend we might get our blinds!!!

Will post updates soon!

xoxo
